Meet the Artist

My name is Anne, but since my screen name is NuffieArts, most people simply call me Nuffie these days.

I am a traditional and digital artist from Germany who focusses on creating anime illustrations. Most of the time I create illustrations featuring my own characters, and from time to time I do fanart of series I enjoy.

Ever since early 2019 I have been attending conventions as an artist, and I plan on continuing to do so in the future!

When I am not working on art, I am usually working on my character's story, playing video games or catching up on series that I enjoy. My favourite genre in any kind of fiction is fantasy, and I do enjoy stories that borrow from supernatural elements and/or are set in a medieval times. A few of my favourite games and anime/tv series are Dark Souls, Fire Emblem, the Fate franchise, Kid Icarus: Uprising and Supernatural.

After finishing highschool, I enrolled in university to study Biology. In October 2019 I graduated from university with a M. Sc. degree, and I am currently looking for a job in my field of study. Meanwhile I am working part time in an office and creating art in my spare time.

When did you start drawing?

It is hard to recall when exactly I started drawing, however the oldest pieces in my or my relative's possession date back to around 1998. At the time I was still visiting elementary school, and Pokémon and Anime were rather popular among children. I fondly remember watching anime on television after school and trying to recreate the characters I loved on paper. However, at this time, I wasn't drawing regularly.

I did become more passionate about doing art during my first years at middle school while anime were still airing frequently on television and I was looking for a pen pal to share my passion with (in my class, all the other students were neither into drawing nor into anime). As we exchanged letters almost weekly, we used to add in smaller drawings that we did of our favourite characters. As time went by, we drew fanart of several different series that we both liked, and eventually I ended up being introduced to the Sonic franchise by the very same friend at around 2004. I loved the character design and aesthetics, and for the years to come, I drew Sonic characters - whether they were from the official franchise or fan creations - almost exclusively.

In 2006 I signed up on deviantArt, where I am still posting my finished works to this day. At around the same time, I started doing digital art using a very old version of Adobe Photoshop (Adobe Photoshop 5 LE, if I remember correctly) and a no-name tablet. The years went by, and while I was almost exclusively doing digital art from this point onwards, I did do a few traditional illustrations from time to time. At around 2010, I got my first COPIC markers, and I started to do traditional illustrations more frequently again. Yet, I do feel that to this day, I am more skilled at digital art due to the many years of regular practise.

In the beginning of 2017 I reflected on my current skill level, and where I wanted to go with my art from this point onwards. At this point I was feeling unhappy with my artworks, as I had not been as invested in the Sonic Community as I used to for several years and I felt that the style no longer lined up well with the ideas I had for my own characters. Thus I made the decision to switch over to drawing human characters in an anime-style. This leads us where I find myself today actually, drawing anime-styled illustrations and trying to hone my skills each day.
